Norwalk residents, like others across the country, celebrate summer holidays by spending time with family and enjoying the outdoors. The City of Norwalk encourages safe, thoughtful celebrating with consideration given to neighbors and other community members. With Independence Day coming up, here's some important information to ensure that all of our residents have a happy holiday:
- Enjoy the festivities offered at the City of Norwalk’s Annual Independence Day Pageant on Monday, July 3. This free event takes place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the Civic Center Lawn and is open to the public. The evening features games for all ages, arts, crafts, live entertainment, food and a spectacular professional fireworks show.
For those who wish to have their own fireworks at home, only safe and sane, legally purchased fireworks are permitted in the City of Norwalk. Fireworks that have an aerial effect or explode are NOT safe and sane. Find out more about fireworks safety by clicking on the images below in English and Spanish.
Examples of safe and sane Fireworks:
- Smoke Bombs
Safe and sane fireworks can only be used beginning Saturday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the City of Norwalk. Use outside of this time period is not permitted.
The City will not tolerate illegal fireworks. Illegal or misused fireworks can have a detrimental impact on people’s health and safety. Injuries to handlers or even worse, innocent bystanders, such as children, may have a lasting impact on families. Fireworks can also adversely impact veterans of the armed forces and others suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and can be detrimental for neighborhood pets, as the noise can cause animals to run from the source, resulting in injury or death of the fleeing pet.Often illegal fireworks hit the black market long before the 4th of July. If you witness or know about illegal fireworks transactions, please report it! Reports can be made anonymously to Public Safety or the Sheriff’s Department or at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
The City is asking for your cooperation and help in keeping Norwalk safe for everyone, pets and people alike, by reporting illegal firework sales and the use of fireworks outside of the permitted time frame.
Illegal fireworks can be reported to Norwalk Public Safety at (562) 929-5732 or the Sheriffs Department at (562) 863-8711.
